In the last 5 years I have had the opportunity to work with some of the UK biggest marketing agencies. I had the pleasure to met the awesome people that do all the link baiting and optimising behind the scenes and noticed that most of them use some common strategies to generate insane amounts of website traffic.

I want to share a few of their tips with you here to help launch your online presence so make sure you use all techniques in tandem and you’ll get outstanding results.

Tip 1

Make good use of social networking sites. Consider paid advertising on any of the networks that fit your products or service. Schedule your social updates at the right time of the day/week. Social signals are also greatly important for search engine optimisation so don’t miss adding social sharing buttons on your website.

Tip 2

Get a good landing page. Usually the home page will be the first thing your visitors see so make sure it’s straight to the point, light and has easy to navigate options. Add clear call to actions, if people aren’t guided on what to do next, they will leave.

Tip 3

Network with other sites. If you’re running a blog ask related blog owners if you can write guest articles for them or if they’re interested in becoming an author on your blog. Established readers of other sites will begin to notice your guest posts and check you out. This strategy open back-linking opportunities, just don’t ask for it from the fist post.

Tip 4

Advertise in the right places. Look for sites which are in a similar industry as yourself and ask about advertising options with them. Ask about banner advertising options, if you can market to their email lists, if they can mention you on their site, etc.

Tip 5

Ride trends. Keep up with what people are reading or likely to read and provide relevant content for them. People are always keen on knowing about the latest in their industry. Be the one that provides that service(for free) and it’ll set you up quickly as an expert in their eyes.

Tip 6

Tip 7

Use YouTube. Video is now one of the easiest ways of getting insane traffic. Provide real valuable information in a video, add it on YouTube, don’t forget to add tags, transcripts and a proper description(with a link), embed it on your site and share it through your social media accounts. The aim is to get it viral.

Tip 8

See what people are searching when arriving on your site. There are many free snippets of code or plugins to do this. Find out what they are after, build a proper keywords list and provide more articles with those keywords to satisfy the visitors that land on your site.

Tip 9

Seek professional analysis. Once your new shiny website is ready, don’t hesitate to ask a professional for any further suggestions. A reliable point of view from a different perspective can avoid you a ton of hassle and give you that extra bit of edge.

Tip 10:

Maintain current traffic. Once you start getting the insane traffic you’re after,  you’ll need to maintain it. Communicate with your visitors, make them feel appreciated and continue providing value, that’s why they ended up here in the first place.

Bonus Tip

I always had great success with what I call ‘Top List’ articles, this article is one of them. People always search for top 10, top 50, etc… for anything, so when you do your keyword research, consider embedding your main keyword in a top ‘something‘ phrase, you’ll get insane traffic!
